The Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government (MHCLG) has opened a new consultation "Local Government Pension Scheme in England and Wales: Scheme improvements (access and protections)".
It is an open consultation; however, it is particularly relevant to Local Government Pension Scheme (LGPS) members, elected councillors, participating employers and administering authorities.
The consultation seeks views on 4 proposals relating to the LGPS covering:
- the normal minimum pension age
- pension access for mayors and councillors
- academies in the LGPS
- the new Fair Deal
Alongside the consultation, draft regulations for the proposals on pension access for mayors and councillors, and the introduction of the new Fair Deal into the LGPS have been published for comment.
